Our History
It all started in 1961 when a businessman named Harold Sampson couldn’t find a daily planner that met his needs. Frustrated with disorganized notes scribbled on scraps of paper, Harold decided to create his own planner. He teamed up with his wife and together they handmade the first Day Runner planner in their basement.
Word spread quickly about Harold’s innovative planner with its refillable format and high-quality construction. Local professionals started asking for their own custom planners, and soon the Sampsons had more orders than they could fill by hand. In 1962, they leased a small plant and launched the Day Runner company.
The early years were filled with rapid growth as Day Runner continued improving its original design. The company added new features like telephone/address pages and monthly tabs. As the product line expanded to include organizers and binders, Day Runner solidified its reputation for versatile, high-performing time management tools.
